ABBA is a Swedish disco and pop band founded in 1972, named after the first letters of the performers' names: Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
It is one of the most successful bands in the history of popular music and the most successful one among those created in Scandinavia: the band's recordings have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide. The quartet's singles have been topping the charts since the mid-1970s ("Waterloo", with which the band won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974) to the early 1980s ("One of Us"), and compilations topped the world charts in the 2000s as well.
The band's music remains on radio playlists and their albums continue to be sold to this day.
They were the first representatives of continental Europe to top the charts in all the leading English-speaking countries (USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand).
On March 15, 2010, ABBA was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their outstanding services to music.
