Björk Guðmundsdóttir is an Icelandic singer, actress, musician, composer and songwriter, winner of many awards.
She recorded her first album at the age of 11, it gained great popularity in Iceland, but Björk gained world fame as the vocalist of the alternative rock band The Sugarcubes, whose single "Birthday" in 1987 became a hit in the UK and the USA, was well received by the public and praised by music critics.
Björk began her solo career in 1993, her album "Debut" was based on electronic dance music, house, jazz and trip-hop. Admittedly, it is one of the first albums to introduce alternative electronic music into the mainstream, it was sold over 4.7 million copies worldwide.
Björk has developed her own eclectic musical style, which includes aspects of electronics, classical, avant-garde music, alternative dance music, rock and jazz. Björk wrote the music for the "Dancer in the Dark" movie by Lars von Trier, in which she played the main role and received the prize as the best actress at the Cannes Film Festival. She also took part as a composer and actress in the "Drawing Restraint 9" movie by her then-husband Matthew Barney, the soundtrack to which was released as a self-titled album.
