Avenged Sevenfold is an American metal band formed in 1999.
The band's debut album, "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet", was dominated by punk and metalcore motifs, and screaming was often used as vocals.
The next album, "Waking the Fallen", was recorded in the style of metalcore, with heavy metal elements in some songs.
On the band's third album, "City of Evil", the label's most commercially successful and first major release, the sound came close to the classic sound of heavy metal.
In 2009, the band's drummer, James Sullivan, died of acute intoxication caused by the combined effects of drugs and alcohol. Despite his death, the band continued recording with the help of former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who helped record the parts and toured with them in support of their fifth album, "Nightmare", until the end of 2010 (the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time for the band).
To date, band has released many albums and singles, with sales exceeding 10 million copies worldwide. They continue musical searches, experiments and amaze and surprise with new musical discoveries. The band itself received many positive reviews for its success around the world and was hailed as one of the leaders and key bands of the new wave of American metal.
