I saw a deer limp across
A supermarket parking lot
Last night as I drove home from work

Abandoned buildings full of smoke
Children jumping from the roof
Cars in ditches leaking blood
Rivers full of drowning bugs

But as the sun fell between
The leaning buildings and the street
The moment came 'tween day and night
Painted soft in golden light

The crooked street shining gold
