The Pogues is an English-Irish folk-punk band formed and fronted by Shane MacGowan in 1982 in London and became famous in the second half of the 1980s thanks to the albums Rum Sodomy and the Lash (1985, # 13 UK), If I Should Fall from Grace with God (1988, # 3 UK) and Peace and Love (1989, # 5 UK).
The band was able to prove "that the spirit of punk rock can live in Irish folk music" so using whistle, banjo, accordion, mandolin - instruments associated with traditional Celtic folklore became "one of the most radical bands of the mid-80s s'"
