The Damned is a British rock band formed in 1976, who began among the leaders of the second wave of punk rock, gradually created their own, eclectic and constantly changing style with elements of gothic, art and power pop rock. They are went down in history as a "triple primacy": they released the first British punk single ("New Rose") and a punk album (Damned, Damned, Damned), and in addition, they were the first British punk bands to tour American.
The band's 13 singles and 7 albums were included in the UK Top 50; the hit "Eloise" rose to #3 in 1986. The band influenced the hardcore punk that was emerging in the late seventies with its high-speed sound at concerts and recordings (in particular, in the first and third albums) and lyrics of acute social themes, as well as gothic rock; the band's influence was recognized by musicians from Offspring, Rancid, Green Day, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana and The Libertines.
