Bullet For My Valentine is a British metalcore band. It was formed in 1998 under the name Jeff Killed John and consisting of Matthew Tuck (vocals, rhythm guitar), Michael Paget (lead guitar), Nick Crandley (bass guitar) and Michael Thomas (drums). Initially its members performed covers of Metallica and Nirvana songs, at the same time writing their own material, The stylistics of the band was leaning towards nu-metal.
The year 2003 was a year of big changes concerning the name, style and line-up. As a result, the name was changed to the current name, the band's style was changed to melodic metalcore with an extensive use of clean vocals, and the vacant bassist position was filled by Jason James. Soon the major label Roadrunner Records was the first to offer the band a contract. However, after a long consideration of all its advantages and disadvantages, the band refused to accept the offer. Eventually it signed a deal with Sony BMG, designed to publish five full-length albums. According to Matthew, this decision was dictated by the fact that the Sony agreement gave the band much more options.
The Poison debut album was released on 2005 in the United Kingdom and on 2006 in the United States, on Valentine's Day, a reference to the band's name. The album reached No. 128 on the Billboard 200. At 2008, it had sold 375,000 copies. The album received Gold status from the Recording Industry Association of America.
The band's second album, Scream Aim Fire, was released on 2008 in the United States and immediately hit number 4 on the Billboard 200, selling 53 thousand copies in the first week.
In 2010 the next album Fever was released. The album debuted at #3 overall on the Billboard 200, and also hit #1 in the "rock" and "alternative" sections. Sales surpassed the milestone of 500,000 copies, 71,000 and 22,000 of which were sold in the first week in the US and UK respectively. The album received "gold" status in Britain. On 2013, Temper Temper fourth album was released, reaching number 13 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 41,000 copies.
The fifth Venom album was released on August 14, 2015. The album charted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. It stayed on the chart for four weeks.
The sixth album Gravity was released on 2018. It charted at number 17 on the Billboard 200 and lasted 2 weeks.
